June 7th 2012
Live from Under Armour Arena:
Bronx, New York
ESPN3.com
…Sponsored by FB18 Studios, Code Red Wrestling, and Galveston Island Wrestling…
The fans continue to pour into the Under Armor Arena, right across the street from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York for a special edition of “Proving Grounds.” The buzz in the arena is high as the New York crowd gets ready for the first of back to back CRW produced shows.
Inside the arena, the stage is set, with a slight tweak. A bright spotlight shines down on a glass case. Inside the case rests a very special trophy… The camera zooms in on the gold trophy, giving the viewers a clear look at it. “FB18: Trans Atlantic Cup New York Bracket Winner” is engraved across the front. The fans pop for the trophy as it appears on the UAtron, but they quickly get louder as “Injection” by Rise Against begins to play over the PA and the large pyro display explodes across the stage. The camera pans the crowd as we cut to the commentary team of Eli Brooks and Kelly Reyes.
(Kelly): Hello everyone and welcome to tonight’s special presentation of CRW Proving Grounds! I’m Kelly Reyes and with me, as always, is Eli Brooks! Now Eli, tonight we are going to witness the first round of the Trans Atlantic Cup Tournament, sponsored by FB18 Studios!
(Eli): That’s right Kelly, and for those of you who don’t know yet, the T-ACT is being hosted by CRW and GIW, and the tournament has been split into two brackets. The Galveston Bracket, hosted by GIW, and our New York Bracket, of course being sponsored by us here at Code Red! Now tonight we’ve got two big matches for the tournament, each featuring some very talented competitors.
(Kelly): We’ve got CRW’s own, Gravedigger tonight taking on AJ Fairchild, and in tonight’s main event, we’ll get to see Alexis Terry taking on Nightcat.
(Eli): As you folks know, the brackets were set by a computer which randomly selected names from the competitor pool, and the New York Bracket just happened to end up with three CRW wrestlers. Two of which were granted first round Byes, which in a tournament like this, is huge!
(Kelly): That’s right E, Diego de la Vega, the former CRW Apex Champion, and Crucible Runner Up, as well as rookie upstart, Carlisle Cain were two of four competitors in this tournament to be selected to fill the “bye” slots, which is a great advantage as you pointed out.
(Eli): I can’t wait to see what these hungry starts have to offer, so let’s not waste anymore time folks!
“Face to the Floor” by Chevelle hits on the PA, as the fans come to their feet.
(Announcer): Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Code Red Wrestling owner… Talon Wilkinson!
Talon steps out onto the stage, his custom Italian business suit looking very sharp, with a mic in his hand and a smile on his face.
(Talon): Welcome everyone, to this special edition of Proving Grounds. I’d just like to thank you all for coming out this evening for this inter-promotional tournament, and I’d also like to thank FB18 Studios for allowing us to put on such an event, in an effort to showcase the talents in the wrestling world today!
The fans cheer as the boss continues.
(Talon): Now tonight we’ve got two great matches, and the winners will advance to face Carlisle Cain and Diego de la Vega respectively, in the second round.
The fans explode as Talon mentions fan favorite, Diego de la Vega. A chant of “Go Diego Go!” breaks out across the sold out crowd as Talon can’t help but grin.
(Talon): Alright, I’m not going to stand out here and take up 30 minutes of air time… so enjoy the show, and may the best man… or woman, win! I hope to see you all tomorrow night for Face Off!
The fans continue to cheer as Talon waves to the crowd and exits the stage.
Gravedigger (CRW) vs. AJ Fairchild (FA)
(Announcer): The following contest is set for one fall, where the winner will advance to face Diego de la Vega in the second round of the Trans Atlantic Cup Tournament! First coming to the ring, from Tombstone, Arizona… Representing Code Red Wrestling… Gravedigger!
“For Whom the Bell Tolls” begins to play, the sound of the bell offsetting with the fans chants of “Digger-Digger” As the music begins to kick in, Gravedigger steps through the rising smoke in the arena and the fans come to their feet. The bigman removes his hat and coat as he makes his way to the ring, his eyes focused and determined as he climbs into the ring and awaits his opponent.
(Eli): Now I might be biased due to Digger being in the ring in front of me every other week here in CRW, but I really think he could do some damage in this tournament. He’s all about dealing out a beating, and this type of situation, along with something like the Experts: Extreme Tournament 2012, is a great chance for a big brute like Digger to really put the big hurt on someone.
(Kelly): That’s true Eli, but AJ Fairchild is an unknown factor for Digger this time around. He’s had no way to scout him, and no way to really prepare for him.
(Announcer): …and his opponent, from the Lone Star State, A.J. Fairchild!
Sound the Alarm – Day to Remember hits the PA as the fans instantly begin to boo. Fairchild steps out from behind the curtain and makes his way to the ring as the dark music continues to blare through the sound system. AJ climbs into the ring and raises both arms, looking over at Gravedigger and scoffing before climbing the turnbuckle and again defiantly raising both arms.
(Eli): Wow, what is that noise on the PA right now?
(Kelly): I believe that’s really heavy metal?
(Eli): wow, and I to think, Texas used to have such class….
(Kelly): A little harsh isn’t it Eli? You can’t judge this kid on his entrance music alone.
(Eli): I can, and I’m typically correct.
(Kelly): Well anyways folks, its time to start this match. The fans are definitely behind the home town guy, Gravedigger.
(Eli): Well he’s a fan favorite to begin with, and he definitely has the home field advantage tonight. Listen to this crowd!
The fans are chanting “Digger” as the bell rings and referee Amanda Scire orders the warriors into battle. Digger steps to the center of the ring as AJ stands toe to toe with him. The fans look on as Gravedigger dwarfs AJ before the two tie up.
(Eli): Sheesh, Digger is a foot taller and twice Fairchild’s weight. This is going to be fun.
Digger quickly over powers AJ, but the speedy youngster shows a flash of talent as he rolls through Digger’s wrist lock and scales the near turnbuckle, trying to get early offense established. He leaps from the turnbuckle and throws Gravedigger to the mat with an impressive modified armdrag, but Digger gets to his feet quickly and simply levels him with a massive clothesline!
AJ gets back to his feet and darts towards Digger, ducking under another clothesline, and again springing himself off of the ropes to mount an assault. He flies through the air with a crossbody, but Digger catches him and runs him into the turnbuckle pads before hitting a powerful Oklahoma slam. Digger goes for the cover and Amanda drops into position for the count.
…1!
…2!
But AJ kicks out.
(Kelly): An impressive show of agility from AJ there, but Digger’s power is tough to compete with.
(Eli): Well they call Fairchild “the pissed off teenager of Pro wrestling” and I can see why right now. He doesn’t look too happy with Gravedigger right now.
Fairchild rolls from the ring and kicks the steel ring steps out of frustration as the fans egg him on with their boos. Digger remains inside the ring as the ref begins her count on Fairchild.
…1!
AJ looks at Digger and huffs as he again kicks the steel steps.
…2!
Digger steps over to the ropes and waves AJ back to the ring.
…3!
Fairchild grows frustrated as he looks at the ref and yells for her to keep Digger back so he can re-enter the ring.
…4!
Digger backs up, continuing to taunt AJ, mockingly begging him to come back into the fray.
…5!
AJ slaps the mat hard and slides in, quickly popping to his feet and charging Gravedigger!
Digger goes to big boot him, but Fairchild avoids the massive boot and takes Digger to the mat with a dragon screw! Giving the big man no time to breath, he quickly hops to the top rope and comes off with a big flying fist drop! He covers digger and the ref counts!
…1!
But Digger tosses him off with great force!
(Eli): Look at the raw power from Gravedigger! He just made Fairchild look like…well, a child!
(Kelly): Impressive, but we’ve seen this from Digger for a while now, he’s really learned to use his size and strength to his advantage, especially now that he’s began to focus more on using some technical moves instead of straight power.
(Eli): Fairchild is probably wishing he was back in Texas about now…
Gravedigger gets to his feet as AJ plots his next move. He climbs to the top, but advices himself not to jump and instead steps down to the ring apron. Digger closes the gap, but AJ quickly grabs his head and guillotines him on the top rope.
Digger stumbles back, gasping for air as Fairchild springboards back into the ring, with his “Meta World Elbow” but Digger quickly reaches out, grabbing the flying teenager by the throat and slamming him into the mat with a vicious chokeslam!
(Eli): Holy Hell! Did you see that! Digger just caught Fairchild mid air and drove him straight to China with a massive one handed chokeslam!
Digger covers AJ and the ref gets into position.
…1!
…2!
…but AJ manages to kick out!
(Kelly): Determination being shown here by Fairchild, to kick out of that move after that impact, that takes digging deep!
(Eli): He would have been smarter to simply stay down, he may have survived, but that slam took its toll I’m sure!
AJ slowly pulls himself up to his feet as the referee looks on and the fans chant for Digger to “Fin-ish Him!”
(Kelly): These fans want it Eli, is it time?
(Eli): I think so, this kid is on dream street!
Gravedigger slashes his throat as AJ turns and faces him, Digger lifts him up onto his shoulder and drives him headfirst into the mat with a vicious tombstone piledriver!
(Eli): See, its over!
Digger forgoes the pin though, rolling AJ over and locking on the “Hell Fire” (Crippler Crossface) AJ is out cold and unresponsive. Digger pulls back hard as Amanda decides to call the match. She signals to the time keeper and the bell rings.
(Announcer): Here is your winner… Gravedigger!
(Kelly): Digger has done it. It’s on to Carlisle Cain now, and that’s a match I want to see!
(Eli): Not much of a challenge there, Digger just plowed through AJ Fairchild, he might as well have stayed at home.
(Kelly): Well, you can’t fault the kid for trying E.
(Eli): …I’m just saying, I was right at the beginning of this match, he didn’t have what it took to hang with a monster like Gravedigger!
Gravedigger makes his way to the back as the fans give him a big ovations. The camera cuts backstage for a moment where backstage interviewer, Jasmine Locklear is standing by with Carlisle Cain.
(Jasmine): Hello everyone, I’m here right now with Carlisle Cain, now Carlisle… how do you feel about being seeded to face Gravedigger in the next round of this tournament?
Cain steps in front of Jasmine, pushing her out of the picture as he takes the microphone.
(Cain): Gravedigger, you and I have gotten off of the wrong foot since my debut here in Code Red, and now we’re set to face off one on one in the second round, which is good, because now I don’t have to waste a match on Face Off in order to get my hands on you… You see Digger, I don’t like you, not one bit. …and it’s because of one word. “RESPECT.” … Since my debut here, you’ve called me names, made fun of my decision to stand up for Natalie Burrows, and even had your little buttbuddy Colt Richards call me out for a match, but now its you and me Big man, and I’m going to show everyone, here and across the world, that I am the future…. I am Carlisle F’N Cain!
Cain walks out of the shot with a smirk on his face as the camera cuts to the ringside area once again.
(Kelly): Well, interesting words from Carlisle Cain, I’m really looking forward to that match up in the next round.
(Eli): As am I, Cain has promise and potential, but Digger will again have the size and experience advantage, and if he can win, he’ll be in a good position to make a claim for the Trans-Atlantic Cup.
(Kelly): Now, our final match tonight will be of interested to the masked luchador, Diego de la Vega, since he will be facing the winner…
(Eli): Diego has to be happy he got the first round by, since tomorrow night he has a big match with Gravedigger on CRW FACEOFF, but he also needed the break after that vicious “Three Stages of Hell” match he had with Merlyn over the Apex Championship two weeks ago at our Mayhem pay per view. He took a nasty fall from the top of that ladder, so I’m sure his back is happy he’s not in this match tonight as well.
(Kelly): Very true Eli, now time for the main event!
Nightcat (ELITE) vs. Alexis Terry (FA)
(Announcer): The following is our main event! …First coming to the ring, representing ELITE… from the Lion’s Den, NIGHTCAT!
“The Animal” by Disturbed begins to blast as Nightcat busts through the curtain and makes a beeline for the ring. The fans boo him as he blows them off and goes straight to his corner, a sneer on his face.
(Kelly): Isn’t he just delightful.
(Eli): I like it, none of this flashy showboating, just get in the ring and kick some ass.
(Announcer): …and his opponent, from Liverpool, England, representing GIW… “The Queen” Alexis Terry!
“Kiss my Lips” by Dev begins to play and the fans come to their feet, interested in seeing what Alexis Terry brings to the ring. She makes her way to the ring, her energy high, getting the fans behind her right away!
(Eli): …Now I like this look… if only she was wrestling another female.
(Kelly): One day Eli, you’re going to regret your stance on intergender wrestling.
(Eli): Naaa, not really, but thanks.
(Kelly): Well Alexis Terry comes in to this tournament with a chip on her shoulder, she has to prove to haters, like yourself, that she’s more than a pretty face.
(Eli): She’s got a nice ass too.
(Kelly): ELI!
(Eli): If she wins this, I’ll be shocked. Nightcat looks like a beast from what I’ve seen of him.
The bell rings and the two competitors meet each other in the middle of the ring.
(Eli): Here we go.
Nightcat and Terry lock up in the middle of the ring.
(Kelly): Nightcat’s size advantage is quite obvious from this view Eli.
(Eli): Yeah it is. The man has over a foot height advantage and about a 140 pound weight advantage. I don’t see this match going past the 8 minute mark with Nightcat as your winner.
Nightcat gets the advantage and locks on a headlock.
(Kelly): Headlock by Nightcat. I’m not sure if I agree with you Alexis Terry has quite the list of accomplishments.
Nightcat violently wrenches on the headlock already trying to make Terry submit.
(Eli): But the only news I’ve heard about her so far in this tournament is GIW dropping her.
Terry tries to shove Nightcat off but he keeps holding on tight.
(Kelly): Terry looking for a way out but Nightcat trying to prevent the counter. Well although we don’t know all the details about her situation with GIW maybe she will like New York and sign with Code Red Wrestling.
(Eli): Eh, I’d rather her not.
Terry throws some forearms to the lower back of Nightcat that don’t seem to be doing much damage. She then throws some knee’s to the thigh of Nightcat. After softening the leg up she goes for a drop toe hold and is successful in breaking the headlock.
(Kelly): Drop toe hold by Terry breaks the headlock and now both competitors on their feet.
Both wrestlers get to their feet. Nightcat rushes after Terry but Terry locks on a headlock of her own.
(Eli): Headlock by Terry. Not a good idea.
(Kelly): Why not?
(Eli): Cause it won’t take Nightcat as long to counter this as it did Terry.
Nightcat shoves Terry off who runs to the ropes and comes bouncing back. Nightcat swings for a clothesline but Terry ducks under. She then goes across the ring and comes off the ropes again. As Nightcat turns around he gets hit with a powerful dropkick to the sternum that sends Nightcat stumbling back.
(Kelly): Nightcat may have broke the hold be found himself on the wrong side of a strong dropkick by Terry.
(Eli): Yeah but it looked like Terry put everything she had into that dropkick and it wasn’t even enough to send Nightcat to the mat.
Nightcat shakes off the dropkick after holding his chest for a moment and charges after Terry. Terry now back to her feet sees Nightcat coming and hit’s a picture perfect arm drag. Nightcat quickly gets back up and gets hit with another arm drag. He then rolls out of the ring to think of a new game plan.
(Kelly): Alexis Terry showing she has the technical advantage over Nightcat.
(Eli): It looked like Ricky Steamboat was in there for a second.
(Kelly): Eli are you coming around to Terry?
(Eli): No, but I can just admit when someone does something good.
Nightcat slides back into the ring. Terry rushes over and begins to put boots to the back of Nightcat. Nightcat starts to get to his feet when he explodes and hit’s a hard double leg takedown on Terry.
(Eli): This is a position Terry does not want to be in Kelly.
(Kelly): This is a rare moment where I completely agree with you Eli.
After a short time of struggle Nightcat gets the full mount and then begins raining down a number of openhanded strikes upon Terry.
(Kelly): Nightcat really coming down with those strikes Eli.
(Eli): A man once told me that openhanded strikes can actually do more damage. When you throw a punch the shock and force of the impact goes rushing up your hand and arm. Which is why sometimes you hurt your hand punching. Some wrestlers, boxers, and even mixed martial artists have broken their hands just trying to knockout their opponent. Apparently and openhanded strike takes away some of that force. But those blows still look pretty vicious.
Terry finally begins to cover up her face. Nightcat keeps striking anyway trying to break the block.
(Kelly): Nightcat needs to start timing those shots or he is going to wear himself out.
(Eli): Doubt it, look at that guy.
(Terry): Then arches up her back quickly managing to bridge up completely even placing her head on the mat. Nightcat not expecting this falls off to the side. Terry looking for a chance to regroup rolls to the outside.
(Eli): What is outside of the ring the relax center of this match? Should we set up a lawn chair and give them pina colada’s?
(Kelly): Each wrestler is just trying to think of the correct plan to win the match.
(Eli): Well it doesn’t look like Terry is going to have long to think. Nightcat is coming out after her.
Nightcat exit’s the ring and gives chase to Terry. She doesn’t realize he is on the outside and is blindsided by a forearm strike to the back of the head sending her down to the floor.
(Kelly): Cheap shot by Nightcat.
(Eli): Cheap shot or strategy?
(Kelly): Both Eli, but that doesn’t make it any better.
Nightcat pulls Terry up and throws her into the steel steps.
(Eli): Looks like Nightcat is really looking to break down Terry.
(Kelly): That’s illegal Eli and Nightcat should be disqualified.
The referee reprimands Nightcat and goes back to his count. Nightcat rolls into the ring and then back out to break the count.
(Eli): Well looks like the ref is going to let it slide this time.
Nightcat grabs Terry who is trying to get back to her feet. He pulls her up and then goes to irish whip her into the guard rail but Terry uses all her strength and reverses it sending him crashing into the rail.
(Eli): What a blatant breaking of the rules by Terry there!
(Kelly): Oh don’t give me that Eli. She was only countering what Nightcat started.
Terry rolls into the ring trying to garner some strength. The referee is still counting but Nightcat makes his way into the ring at the count of 9.
(Kelly): Nightcat barely making it in before the 10 count.
(Eli): That would have been an awful ending to this match.
Both competitors get to their feet. Terry looks to have suffered more damage so far but Nightcat is starting to breakdown. The two meet in the middle of the ring and begin to exchange forearms.
(Kelly): Both wrestlers starting to dig deep as their bodies begin to break. As they meet in the middle to begin striking it out.
(Eli): Awful move here by Terry. First the only way she can hit these strikes is because Nightcat is slightly bent from that rough collision with the guardrail. Once Nightcat stands straight he has no way to land these. Also her advantage lies in speed not power.
As the two exchange blows Nightcat begins to develop the advantage. He then grabs Terry’s head and throws a good 4 or 5 forearms that sends her falling to the mat.
(Eli): My point exactly.
(Kelly): Well Terry needs to get it together soon or she’s going to find herself out of this tournament.
Nightcat then begins to play to the crowd and starts to flex his arms to a chorus of boos.
(Kelly): Now some showboating by Nightcat.
(Eli): This is a dumb move Kelly. He has Terry right where he wants her. He should be finishing the match not trying to show off.
Nightcat then notices Terry starting to sit up. He runs, hit’s the ropes then comes back with a big penalty kick that sends Terry snapping back.
(Kelly): Big kick by Nightcat keeps him in the drivers seat!
(Eli): I bet her boobs hurt.
(Kelly): ELI!
(Eli): What it’s a truthful statement.
Nightcat then goes for the cover.
(Kelly): Cover by Nightcat. 1...2...
(Eli): Kick out!
Alexis Terry shoots up a shoulder and avoids going home the loser this time. Nightcat frustrated yanks Terry up by the hair.
(Kelly): That’s unnecessary right there.
(Eli): They always taught us when I was wrestling that if you grow your hair long it’s going to be used against you.
(Kelly): So every female wrestler should cut their hair short?
(Eli): Why not, they’re just going to do it when they are 60 anyway.
(Kelly): Eli!
Nightcat begins slapping the face of Terry yelling at her to “come on”. Nightcat reaches his arm back looking to go for a burning lariat when Terry drives a kitchen sink knee to the gut of Nightcat doubling him over. Terry then sees an opening and drops Nightcat with a DDT.
(Kelly): What a presence of mind by the former GIW Legacy champion.
(Eli): Let’s just see what she does from here.
Terry crawls over to the ropes and pulls herself up, still trying to shake the cobwebs. Nightcat gets on all fours then puts one knee up. Terry sees a chances and bounces off the ropes then connects with a shining wizard.
(Kelly): Shining wizard by Terry.
Terry then goes for the cover.
(Kelly): Now a cover, 1...2...kick out!
Nightcat summons some energy and pushes Terry off of him.
(Eli): Nightcat showing some of his power there.
Terry gets up then puts some boots on Nightcat keeping him down. She then runs to the corner and hit’s the MGME.
(Kelly): Wow, what a moonsault by Terry.
(Eli): I believe that’s the Most Glamorous Moonsault Ever.
(Kelly): How do you know that?
(Eli): I’m just reading this piece of paper they gave me.
(Kelly): Terry now positions herself for the cover. 1...2...kick out!
(Eli): Nightcat not willing to give it up yet.
Terry beats on the mat then argues with the referee who asserts himself and tells Terry it was a 2 count. Terry sits Nightcat up then runs hit’s the ropes comes back and lands a yakuza style kick to the face of Nightcat which looks to have almost knocked him out.
(Kelly): Nightcat looks barely conscious Eli.
(Eli): Things aren’t looking good for him that’s for sure.
Terry then runs to the corner and hits another MGME.
(Kelly): Another huge MGME by Terry. And again with the cover. 1...2.…3!
(Announcer): Here is Your winner… Alexis Terry!
(Eli): Well, wow… I was wrong.
(Kelly): Yes you were. We saw a modern day David vs. Goliath encounter tonight and once again David wins.
(Eli): Yeah if David was an annoying British girl.
Alexis Terry raises her arms in victory, climbing to the top rope as the fans cheer her on. Nightcat exits the ring, defeated as Alexis seems thrilled to be advancing in the tournament.
(Kelly): Well folks, that is going to do it for round one of the Trans Atlantic Cup Tournament! We thank you for joining us tonight for this special 1 hour edition of Proving Grounds!
(Eli): We hope to see you next week for the second round of the tournament… Diego de la Vega vs. Alexis Terry… and Gravedigger vs. Carlisle Cain. Who’s going to move on to the Third round?!
(Kelly): Join us then to find out!
(Eli): Don’t forget to check out FB18 and Coderedwrestling.com for more information on the TACT and all your favorite CRW wrestlers! Thank you folks, and good night!
(Kelly): Sportscenter is next!
The show ends as Alexis exits the ring and begins to celebrate with the fans at ringside as we fade.

(Announcer): The following contest is set for one fall, where the winner will advance to face Diego de la Vega in the second round of the Trans Atlantic Cup Tournament! First coming to the ring, from Tombstone, Arizona… Representing Code Red Wrestling… Gravedigger!

The show ends as Alexis exits the ring and begins to celebrate with the fans at ringside as we fade.
