(After a long Hiatus Eddie has decided to break the silence. Going against Jack Bookman's plan to verbally boycott CRW until the PPV Eddie knows he owes CRW and the fans much more then they have had to bare with in the last five months. He is in his bar that looks slightly different, a fresh coat of paint and some new furniture now fill the space known as E Squared. Some boxes are in the corner. Jack is sitting with Eddie's lawyer Patrick McBride shuffling through some paper work. Eddie pours a half shot of his favorite Patron. He looks around taking it all in as he downs the shot. He walks slowly behind the bar grazing his hand over the lacquered top. He checks for dust between his thumb and pointer finger. Spotless!. He makes his way to the digital juke box and pulls out a 5 dollar bill and drags it back and fourth over the edge trying to iron out the wrinkles so the money tray accepts it. Puts in a few numbers and hits loop, Suddenly in a low volume "it's been a while" by Stained comes on. He stairs at the juke box and takes a deep breath, slowly looking around the bar he smiles. Eddie walks around the bar and pulls up a chair then looks into the camera)
Eddie: Here I am, it's been a while...you know this trip of mine, this journey has been across the spectrum. And I know the rumors have been swirling about my future. Where am I, what am I doing. Truth is, I decided that CRW suddenly became really crowded at the top, it became suffocating, I felt as if though the pedestal I stood upon, the firm ground had become very fragile. Let me explain.
Looks down and wipes his nose with his thumb
Eddie: When those doors of CRW first opened I always knew I would be a world champion, I always knew that the world title was all I ever wanted. It was natural, some are born to be leaders and some are born to thrive for that very same feeling. I can't say I predicted what would come next but I can say I predicted what is happening now. It's what's called the natural flow of this business. Some companies refuse to move forward and some companies move too fast; and then we have CRW. This beast of a federation has managed to keep up with the Joneses just fine...but for a price. What Price? some would say our souls, some would say with our blood, but I say, the price has been our foundation. CRW has ignored the foundation and with so many questionable at the top, the pedestal has become heavy and that fragile ground I spoke about is our very foundation that CRW was built on. When wrestler after wrestler walks through those doors and main events show after show, when so many crowd that spotlight all we see are the shadows of those who helped make that spotlight as big and bright as it was. All CRW has done is make that penthouse house so heavy that the foundation of everything CRW has grown on is becoming weak, and when the foundation becomes weak, well...you don't have to be an architect or building inspector to know that skyscrapers fall when the foundation crumbles...(Wipes his mouth) talking about skyscrapers crumbling
Eddie stands up, palms on the table he looks directly into the camera
Eddie: Gravedigger, I know you are afraid, since day one, you have always been afraid of what I stood for, of what I would ultimately become, and that was everything you knew you never could. For what ever reason, somehow...Talon has kept you relevant. Somehow, you have managed to stay afloat with men who had twice the size of your balls three times the talent. Gravedigger, I don't know how you did it, but you did. *Rubs his Chin* did you hide in the background waiting?, or did Talon ignore you for so long that he chose now for you to have this moment. See with Talon I can never tell. See, like my buddy Jack Back there behind me, Talon is all about business. That very same business that once was flourishing a pristine legacy, it had grit and where you stood and how you got there meant something. Then, it all changed. I saw a company with the foundation of all foundations. A federation that was building legacy, building status, building heroes and villains that would go down in the wrestling industry annals for decades to come and just like that *Snaps his fingers* Talon dissolved it. He blew it all up and while I stood there with the CRW world title looking down I could not understand why was the foundation of CRW crumbling from underneath my feet. Why was the mountain i climbed being turned into an easy access highway straight to the top.
(*Smiles and shakes his head almost in disbelief as if he just figured it out*)
Eddie: Then on that faithful night at Crucible, I looked around me as Diego would not quit, I looked around me as Talon watched Diego not wanting to quit, as I layed in on Diego and he kept getting up I realized what was happening. It was ending, Diego knew what i knew, he saw what I was realizing at that moment. CRW as I, as we knew it was coming to an end. See, when it is all said and done, I am the one the thing, the true one thing that keeps CRW as you fans know it. That held it together and took us out the darkness and while I stood side by side with the fans the doors I helped build was blown open and a guy like Brandon Garcia walked in...by the way, where is that guy, he made a lot of noise
*Puts his hand to his ear listening*
Eddie: See, I am sure I came on and told the world that Garcia was just another passing trend, a trend that the fan boys could latch on too. That all the Eddie haters and Diego lovers could follow. I told the world that before this season was over Brandon would be as relevant as Merlyn, at least Merlyn stuck around long enough to make people care. ..HAILMARY!....What a joke. Talon handed this man free reign and he took it like he took the title and wiped his ass with it.
(Walks to the bar and reaches over, grabs the patron and pours himself another shot)
Eddie: Who else was on the Brandon bandwagon, that train cart everyone jumped on and that pulled into CRW station, Well I can't say much for Rex he actually still holds the title and i can see he is having a hard time taking the stink of Brandon off of it, my advice to Rex. It took me well over 150 days to get that thing to shine after i ripped it from Dredges dirty hands, so I applaud your attempt ...(Eddie starts to clap) Rex, that title needs to be cleaned of the muddy finger prints that have been all over it since it left my waist. See, that title is in danger of falling even lower because that hole at the front gate just gets bigger and bigger as more and more overhyped, overexposed egocentric maniacs walk through with their over inflated resumes of shit I could care less about and guys who I could beat on any random Proving Grounds. You know the guys, guys Like Terry Marvin and Doug E. Fresh, Masset, Wayland and the list goes on and on. And just when you though the egomaniacs and pompus self proclaiming puppets couldn't get no worse.....DIEGO DE La VEGA COMES STROLLING BACK!
Downs the shot and slams down the glass. Wipes his mouth with
the back of his hand
Eddie: But this time with a scary mask....(Takes a deep breath) I never wanted to leave this business unless I left on my own terms- so this idea that I am leaving, that my outside interest have somehow changed the course of my career is something put out there by those who fear who I truley am. See, those guys i just mentioned, they want me to leave, they know eventually they won't be able to keep up with me, the machine starts saying "Is Eddie Leaving?" I have always said "Rise with the Phoenix", and I have always said it because honestly it's half true but half cool. Rising through the flames to regain true power and become better then I ever was, well that has been the story of my life. The thing is, this idea that every challenge somehow has me rising through the flames has become a redundancy that I will no longer choose to throw out there. Truth is, there is no flame, there is only pure fire, a fire that seems to be burning outside of me. See this fire is the fire Talon has been setting in his little corners, fires like the small fire pits that boy scouts set when they are lost and are trying to draw some attention and be rescued. See Talon, with Dredge, with Brandon, Veritas and now with Bizarro Diego, you have started fires that you alone cannot put out. Your precious little boy wonder Diego has come back to do what they all do Talon....Bite you in the ass. And what about Eddie Phoenix?. Still here, still fighting the good fight Talon. And where are you. Expanding that door to let in the next guy who will shoot you down.
(Eddie takes his hat off and runs his hand through his hair in deep thought. he closes his eyes searching for answers within himself)
Eddie: I wish I could focus on one thing but truth is not being in front of the camera for CRW for so long has brought perspective to me. That light that once shined so brightly is slowly dimming and being overshadowed by the non believers that you now have as a fan base, and Talon my friend I can't blame You, you have always been ambitious, you have always been that go getter, that peddle to the metal type of guy I just wished along the way I wasn't the one who had to bail you out of jail for getting into car wreck after car wreck time and time again.
(Jack looks up in the background, then looks back down)
Eddie: Let me tell the CRW fans something, when you sit back and tune in as a fan you see all the holes, you see where the lack of talent is and you wonder how did that happen? And for so long i wondered why did you all get so excited when new guys ran in and made themselves known, I always wondered why you guys got so excited for a guy like Brandon and I figured it out. I had defeated everyone and everything in front of me and all you guys were saying was that you anted me to have a new challenge... well let me tell you the fans and let me tell you another fan of mine, Gravedigger. Gravedigger at Mayhem we are going into probably the most dangerous and brutal match this company has ever seen, has ever devised...
(Jack looks up and Coughs..)
Eddie: A match that this guy back here *Points to Jack without looking at him* could only create. Three stages of hell. A two of three falls match that in order to move on to the next level of hell you must get through the face of hell put in front of you. Gravedigger, normally in that ring you are a big man, but in the three stages of hell, your height, your weight and your skill or lack there of will not matter. Gravedigger, when I unloaded that bag of thumb tacks in that ring, when I pull out all those dangerous mercury inhibiting fluorescent light bulbs, when I look to the crowd and ask them to throw their chairs in that ring while you lay motionless and get rained on by heavy steel, you will be in that ring- not with Eddie Phoenix the former CRW champion. When that cage comes down and I beat you to an inch of your life and then throw you out just so we can go to one more match and I can make you say I Quit, you will not be in the ring with a former HWA, RWF and MCW champion Eddie K, you will be in that ring with a man who will single handily show the world what CRW has and will always need. You are stepping in the ring not with a wolf or a Phoenix, you are stepping in that ring with a man who has always hated you, a man who has always hated the nothingness of what you have accomplished in the name of wrestling. You are stepping in that ring with a man who was assaulted in his very own sanctuary by you, a coward, a shadow who could never stand on his own two feet, from being a hench men to Dredge and Kevin Legacy to being a henchmen in your very own little club. You are stepping in that ring with pure animosity and hate for everything you represent to this company and wrestling.
(Eddie starts to get closer to the camera as a scary rage has taken over and possessed him)
Eddie: Gravedigger, while the rest of the world has gone to shit and back, while all the malcontents and never-were tested the waters and ran from the depths. While guys stood for something and then laid down for nothing the very next minute, when they went back and fourth in their beliefs and went from trusting men to vandals and scurrying thieves. Gravedigger, as guys went from "Heels" to "Faces" and "Heels" again, Here I stood. Never compromising, always true, and throughout the doubt, throughout the boo's and hate that I dealt with from the very same fans I bust my ass for, through the never ending conveyer belt of lost friends and fallen men who I have called my equals at one time or another I.....ALWAYS STOOD..... EDDIE FUCKING PHOENIX
(looks down the slowly starts to look up with a menacing look on his face)
Eddie: Gravedigger, I can see it in your eyes. when you had me by my throat in this very bar, that night you made it personal and decided that your nuts had finally dropped. You have the look of a child, a child who accepts what he sees because he's expecting to wake up. Ironically, Gravedigger, from this you will not, Wake Up.
(Eddie tears off his shirts and whips it across the bar as he points to his scar on his shoulder and other miscellaneous scars)
Eddie: These are not scars Gravedigger, these are reminders, these are footnotes in my history....Gravedigger, let me ask you, Do you believe in fate, Gravedigger? I don't, you know why
'Cause I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
Gravedigger, maybe you believe in fate, maybe it's how you explain to yourself why you are in the ring with Eddie Phoenix fighting for the right to beat the living shit out of Rex Evans and become world champion, but Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because your time has come.
(Eddie looks around slowly with his eyes close as if he hears something)
Eddie: You feel it?. Do you feel it Gravedigger, You felt it your entire life. That there's nothing in this world for you and as you watch this promo you will ask yourself these questions quietly, you will look around at your Veritas cohorts and pump your chest knowing it is soon finally going to be over for you. Gravedigger, tell yourself and act as if though your whole career has come down to this one moment. But let me tell you Gravedigger, while our match might be your career highlight it will become just another footnote in mine, while you go to make your mark on CRW, you are only placing it near that crater of a mark I made when I arrived. See Digger, right about now You don't know what it is, that feeling, that knot in the pit of your stomach. It is something you can't answer but come Mayhem, Like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. That feeling that everything you have believed, everything you think you know will come crashing down...Because I am EDDIE FUCKING PHOENIX...And not you, not them, not evil Diego, Brandon where are you now Garcia, not your little gang of misfits or every wanna be that walks through those doors I helped built, Not The Wrestling Knights All stars will determine my fate, not even TALON FUCKING WILKINSON.....
(TAKES A MASSIVELY DEEP BREATH AS HE SUDDENLY BECOMES DISTURBINGLY CALM)
Eddie: Me....
(A voice with an accent from the background speaks as Jack Bookman and Patrick are in shock)
Voice: The way it should always be
(Eddie turns and see's his best friend Donovan Pose)
Donovan: A shot to get back on top, I wouldn't miss this for the world. When I heard the rumors that you were looking to venture out of wresting I couldn't let you do it, I know how much this business means to you
(Eddie looks at Donovan and walks over and embraces Donovan like a child would a long lost father)
Donovan: Eddie, it's always been on your terms...
(Eddie steps back with emotion in his eyes and looks at the camera)
Eddie: Gravedigger, I know that you are afraid, I don't know the future, I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end, I am going to tell you how it's going to begin. I am going to show you exactly who it is you are getting in that ring with and where we go from there I leave up to you....I will let you choose how you end your career.
(Eddie grabs the camera)
Eddie: I AM EDDIE FUCKING PHOENIX AND IF YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN, EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!!!
(GRABS THE CAMERA AND SMASHES IT AS THE FEED JUST CUTS OFF)
It's been awhile
Since I couldn't
Hold my head up high
And it's been awhile
Since I first saw you
And it's been awhile
Since I could stand
On my own two feet again
And it's been awhile
Since I could call you
And all the things I can't remember
As fucked up as it all may seem
The consequences that are rendered
I stretch myself beyond my means
Since I couldn't
Hold my head up high
