Entrance Music
“512” - Lamb Of God
Entrance
The bending intro chords of Lamb Of God’s “512” kick off over the speakers as the stage light go dark, a red strobe over top of the entrance ramp keeping beat with every chord.
“Six bars laid across the sky
Four empty walls to fill the time”
As Randy Blythe’s voice permeates the arena, the silhouetted figure of Tobias Burden makes his way out to the top of the ramp, the beat of the drums increasing the pace of the strobe and doing it’s best to drown out the booing fans
“One careless word you lose your life,
A grave new world… awaits inside”
With that the song kicks into full tempo as the lights in the arena come back on and Tobias starts his way down the ramp, sullenly ignoring any and all of the fans reaching over the barricade. He takes the stairs up onto the outside apron and steps between the ropes.
Announcer: Now in the ring, standing five-feet-nine-inches tall, weighing in at two-hundred-and-fifty pounds, from Los Angeles, California… he is TOBIAS BURDEEEEEEEN!
He hops up onto the second turnbuckle, staring out into the booing crowd before stepping back off to the mat, pacing angrily as he awaits the start of the match
Fan Interaction
Tobias hates the fans, he will knock drinks from their hands, shove them if they get in his face, spit at them… pretty much do anything but attack them… and even then he’s considering it
Biography/Upbringing/Influences
Tobias had a falling out with professional wrestling at the age of 23 and fell off the map for a few years, in that time he managed to become an alcoholic, break up with his fiancee and lose custody of his son. When he reappeared he was a much more bitter, and violent man and let everyone in TKOW's sister fed, Southern Cross Wrestling, know it, by:
~ Not losing a single match in his tenure in SCW
~ Aligning with former SCW champion Jace Mingla and Dave Havoc to form the faction A Violent Reaction.
~ Winning, maintaining and retiring SCW tag titles.
Mid 2005 Tobias would fall off the face of the planet, making AVR a foot note in wrestling history as the stable disbanded, Tobias dealt with many personal issues during this time which have been alluded to several times in various promos over the past two years but never addressed, when he resurfaced in early 2006, people were treated to a much more focused, and much more vicious Tobias Burden, who'd put on several more pounds and changed up his move set to continue to compete with the big boys.
Fans would be treated to some of TKOW's finest matches in its dying days due to the efforts of Tobias and the fans, while not completely loving, learned to respect his work ethic, until when at Megabowl V, TKOW's biggest yearly PPV, he main evented after beating another competitor in the Firestarter Tournament against the TKOW champion Phoenix, although he lost, he won the glory and the love of the fans, and banished his old moniker: "Heartless" for one in which he fought for the fans, as the: "Riot".
On that same night, Tobias finally learned the truth about his former mentor Jace Mingla from Mingla's valet Madison Dyson concerning AVR's old manager, Leona Nguyen... Tobias knocked both Jace and Madison out cold in the span of five minutes.
In its death throes, Tobias would accomplish something that no other TKOW-er has done and pinned Phoenix, he would then be sidelined by and injury before returning for TKOW's final show ever.
Since TKOW's closure Tobias has not stood idly by, opting to sign on with long running fed IGA and trying to gain his base there - as well as in Hardkore World America and Australia - until more personal issues caused him to leave pro wrestling again.
About two years later Tobias re-entered the fold with his brother Tony into FCW where they teamed. He would appear to be more emotionally stable and happy with his life with the birth of his daughter, Calico, and his marriage to long-time girlfriend - and former wrestler herself - Azure Frost. He would continue with FCW until they too, shut down.
A year later Tobias has decided to come back to wrestling, he wasn’t all that happy about it though, as it was to attempt to earn money to support his daughter’s surgery. Joining the stable of Veritas and championing a cause for Gravedigger and Lou Manson.
Lou paid to get his daughter the surgery, but she still died due to complications. Now, with his reason for fighting gone, Tobias embarked on a suicide mission. He sought death – to die in ring – and to go down dragging somebody with him.
… this of course led him directly into the path of one Terry Marvin, who would pin Tobias in this time to take his Apex Championship, after that Tobias upped the ante by antagonizing the one man he truly felt would be able to grant him death, in Andrew Kincaid. The two met at CRW’s penultimate Pay-Per-View – and ultimately last – Code REDemption in an unsanctioned deathmatch, where the two proceeded to tear into each other with a level of ferocity unmatched within that company.
Tobias’ goal was death, Kincaid’s was to make Tobias fear it… and in that, Kincaid was successful as Burden pinned him to win the match but both men were left in the hospital to recover from their wounds, in which time Tobias reflected on his recent actions and found his purpose to live… or at least the WILL to hunt for his purpose to live.
Tobias would wrestle in Sin City Wrestling for the better part of a year until midsummer 2014, when a personal situation involving his long-secretive acts of adultery with a family friend came to his wife Azure’s attention. The resulting fallout saw Tobias beat his wife almost to death before he’d realized what he’d done and fled the scene in panic and confusion.
He was arrested at a cemetery in San Fransisco and charged with assault and battery and a slew of other charges. The disgust of all peers and coworkers estranged him from his now-livid family and made him a pariah in the industry.
In 2015 Tobias was released with the help of the enigmatic Mister Grey, who looks to use Tobias’ anger at life and wrestling in general to accomplish his goals. Whether Tobias gives one whit about his benefactor’s goals or reasons is unknown.
He’s out now, and people are going to pay.
Strengths
Stiff: Tobias hits hard. Absurdly so.
Experience: Tobes is a well traveled veteran, there’s very little he hasn’t seen or experienced in the ring.
Aggression: Tobes is a pressure player. He wants to stick to his opponents and batter them.
Weaknesses
Injured: Tobias has a history of nagging injuries, notably his ribs, that will slow him down and provide easy targets
Irrational: A man ruled by his emotions and a martyr complex a mile wide, Burden has a history of letting control slip into sheer violence. He can be outsmarted or disqualified by an opponent that utilizes those weaknesses.
Not Athletic: Tobias is that rare breed of competitor who isn’t a natural athlete, but rather someone who got to where he is through sheer persistence. As such he’ll have conditioning issues if a match starts to run long. If he can’t set the pace in those situations he’ll be in real trouble with a more athletic opponent.
