“Look at you,” Ethan LeCavalier said as he put his arm around his daughter. “Despite all the stress you've been through lately, you seem to be in good spirits.” He gave a her a slight kiss on the forehead as she leaned in and rested on him. “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you truly happy.”
Misha rested on him for a moment. “Well, it’s been a long while since I was happy—truly happy anyway.” She unintentionally threw a glance towards the Ryan and Nina’s den area. Her mother sat on a small couch talking Kara Ayers, who had her back turns the door. A small smile came to Misha’s face as secretly watched them chat; Ethan caught on to her smile.
“What do you think they are talking about?” he asked his daughter.
“I am not sure,” Misha replied. “They are probably talking about us.”
“I bet you are correct.” Ethan smiled. “I bet they are talking about how grand and wonderful we are.”
“Let’s not get overzealous, father,” Misha said as she playfully nudged him.
Ethan took another glance at the den area as well. “Whatever it is they are talking about, it must be riveting. They both are laughing and seem to be enjoying themselves.” He quickly turned his attention back to his daughter. “Speaking of Kara, she seems to be very nice.”
“There was no doubt in my mind that you’d be fond of her.”
“Is that so?” he asked with a slight laugh. “Well, considering your last love interest, I’d say that Kara is a vast improvement.”
The love interest in question was Johnny Canon, of EXODUS and Frontier Grappling Arts fame. The two had dated about a year previously. They weren’t love; they weren’t really even in lust. If anything, they were both just in need of companionship at the time. Unfortunately, Johnny yearned for more than just Misha’s companionship.
“Yeah,” she said with a frustrated sigh. “Let’s not bring him up, alright?”
“You’re right. I apologize for that.” He nodded. “The past is the past. We shall live in the present, and anticipate the future.” He brought Misha in a bit closer. “May I ask you something?”
“Of course, father.”
“I learned about Kara from Catalina,” he said. “I’m certain that you would have told me on your own accord. But, were you afraid or fearful to approach me?”
“Hmmm...” She didn’t answer right away. “Perhaps a just a little bit.” She paused to think. “Although, it wasn’t that I was fearful, per se. I know you; you are always open and loving. It’s just...with news a large as this and of this nature, I kind of wanted to tell you in person, you know?”
“I see.” He was silent for a moment. “Misha, please know this. The only thing I care about is the best interest of you and Catalina. I’m not concerned about who you date, as long as they are making you happy and beneficial to your personal growth.” Once again, he kissed her on the forehead. “And from the look of things, Kara is over qualified in both categories.”
“That she is,” Misha said. “She truly is amazing.”
“Hmm, I’ve never heard you say that before.” Ethan let out a small laugh. “I suppose I should get in there and talk to her more, yeah?” He let go of his embrace and stood to his feet. “Would be a shame if she became my future daughter-in-law without me knowing nothing about her,” Ethan said in jest.
“Father!” She lightly tapped him on the leg. “Stop it.”
“As you wish,” he said as he turned to head towards by the way. “However, I am going to go spend some time with her. I must experience this amazingness myself, haha. Oh, and Misha dear, you’re blushing profusely, by the way.”
Before she could respond, she felt a light nudge on her shoulder. She shifted and saw her cousins Ryan looming over her. She leaned forward and placed her arms around Misha’s neck. “I see your talk went okay.”
“Indeed it did.”
“Good, I’m glad to hear it.” Ryan let go of her. “Now, you have to join me in chopping the veggies for the dressing. No you can’t out of it—Nina’s orders.”
Misha let out another sigh. “Fine fine.”
Fin.
